The Bible: God’s Inspired Word
The Bible — God’s Revelation to Mankind
The Bible is not an ordinary book. It is God’s revelation of His purpose, given through chosen men who were guided by His Spirit. Every word expresses His will for humanity and provides an infallible foundation for faith and life.
“God, who at various times and in different ways spoke in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by His Son.”
— Hebrews 1:1–2
From Moses and David to the prophets, apostles, and finally through Jesus Christ, God’s message has been consistently revealed. The words they spoke were not their own—they were moved by the Holy Spirit.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.”
— 2 Timothy 3:16–17
The Scriptures — The Source of Saving Knowledge
Where Can We Find True Knowledge of God?
Salvation depends on knowing God and His Son, Jesus Christ. This knowledge is found only in the Holy Scriptures, known today as the Bible.
“From a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
— 2 Timothy 3:15
The Bible brings light, understanding, and hope to everyone who reads it with humility and faith.
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
— Psalm 119:105
What Is the Bible?
The word Bible means “The Book.”
It is unique because it was written by divine inspiration. Prophets and apostles, living centuries apart, were guided by the Spirit of God to record one united message — the mind and purpose of God revealed in history, law, and prophecy.
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.”
— 2 Peter 1:21
“Thy word is truth.”
— John 17:17
Two Great Divisions of the Bible
The Bible is divided into two main sections:
The Old Testament — written by Moses and the prophets before Christ’s coming.
The New Testament — written by the apostles after Christ’s resurrection and ascension.
Together, they form a complete revelation of God’s plan—from creation to the establishment of His Kingdom on earth.
Writers of the Bible
Throughout history, God’s Spirit worked through faithful men to record His Word:
Old Testament writers: Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, and other prophets.
New Testament writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul, James, Jude, and Peter.
Although these men lived in different times and cultures, their message remains unified — God’s purpose with the earth and mankind.
The Time Span of the Bible
The writing of the Bible covers around 1,500 years:
The Old Testament began with Moses about 1,400 BC and ended with Malachi around 400 BC.
The New Testament was written by the apostles shortly after Christ’s resurrection, over 2,000 years ago.
The consistency of its message across this vast period shows that it could only have been written under divine guidance.
How Many Books Are in the Bible?
The Bible contains 66 books:
39 in the Old Testament
27 in the New Testament
Despite its many authors and parts, the Bible remains one complete revelation — the Word of God.
Conclusion — God’s Word for All Generations

“The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
— Psalm 119:130
